NOTICE- CIVIL SERVICE EXAM FOR POLICE OFFICER

Place: Cheviot Fieldhouse, 3723 Robb Avenue
Age: At least 21 years of age
Requirement: High School Diploma or GED Certificate, and OPOTA Certified at time of appointment
An open competitive Civil Service Examination to establish an eligibility list and two immediate hires for the City of Cheviot Police Department will be held as stated above. The exam will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. Doors will be closed, and no one will be granted admittance after 9:00 a.m. The process will consist of a written examination. Applicants who pass the written test will continue to a physical agility test (pass/fail), and an oral exam (20% of total score).
After receiving a total passing grade on the written test, the applicant will receive an additional credit for the following:
- 20% for military credit upon proof of service time.
- 10% for having earned a bachelor’s degree (attach a copy of your diploma).
- 5% for having earned an associate’s degree (attach a copy of your diploma).
- 5% for those who have service as Cheviot Auxiliary (attach proof).
No person shall be entitled to more than 20% increase on their test score. Each successful applicant must be willing to submit to a rigorous background check, pass a medical exam, a polygraph exam and submit to a psychological exam.
Salary for Full-time, first year probationary police officers is $62,591.19 and after one year increased to $77,473.74 (Effective April 1, 2022). Benefits include paid holidays, vacation (after one year), group hospitalization/major medical plan and police liability insurance coverage. Equipment and uniforms are supplied at no cost to the employee. Currently employed Ohio police officers, possessing an up to date OPOTA certification, may have their starting salary adjusted commensurate with full time service years.
